(Released December 26, 2001, version 0.96c provides
these new features)
Tired of just watching? Itching
to host your own iFriends videochat room?
Welcome to the iFriends Free
Download Center! From here, both iFriends chathosts (registration
is free)
and -- at their option, chatroom
visitors -- can download the latest version (0.96c) of our free
ifCam webcam software. To run it, all you need is a connection to
the net, a Windows 95/98/ME/NT4/2000 or XP PC, and an inexpensive
PC videocam, such as the $89 Logitech
QuickCam. (Check out or
Hardware Compatibility List to see the test results we've found
for several cameras on the market.) Setting up is as easy as 1-2-3:
- STEP 1: Download
the ifCam installer. You can now download
version 0.96c for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2K/XP (533K). This will
copy the installation program to your computer. ifCam is ONLY compatible
with Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT 4.0, Windows
2000, and Windows XP. NOTE: Not all cameras are NT, 2000, XP compatible!.
(Not downloading fast enough? Get it from our Mirror Site by
clicking here.)
- STEP 2: Run the
IFCAM96C.EXE program downloaded in Step 1. The program takes you
through a few quick & easy steps, culminating in the installation
of ifCam into the "Programs" area of the Windows "Start
Menu".
- STEP 3: (For iFriends
Chathosts Only) If you haven't already, be sure to register
a "Video Chathost" screenname on iFriends. (Registration is free,
and you need a screenname that others can reference you by). If
you are a chatroom visitor, and not a chathost, click
here for further information.
- For assistance installing
or configuring your iFCam, be sure to check out the iFCam
Manual. This Microsoft Word document provides support documentation
for the iFCam 0.96c, and is especially helpful for first-time users
of the software.
- When you're ready to
transmit your live web feed, get online, and start ifCam. It
begins transmitting your signal to the internet immediately. (You
should see your own cam image in the ifCam window). All that's left
is to register your video chatroom on the iFriends
Video Chathost Console, and decide how much you want to charge
(if anything).
Trouble? Trouble with
your iFriendCam? Try using our intelligent Help
Assistant, which will fire off a detailed query to our iFriends
support staff. As a last resort, you can also call IFriends Video
Chathost Support Line; the phone number is listed in the FAQ.
(If the problem is that you lose all your PC's sounds when you try
to send audio through IFCam, simply contact or visit the web site
of the manufacturer of your sound card to obtain the latest version
of the drivers for your sound card, making sure it is for the particular
version of Windows you are running. This should fix the problem.)
